چکیده

Polycrystalline Ni–Mn–Ga thin films have been deposited by the pulsed laser deposition ~PLD! technique, using slices of a Ni–Mn–Ga single crystal as targets and onto Si ~100! substrates at temperatures ranging from 673 K up to 973 K. Off-stoichiometry thin films were deposited at a base pressure of 1310 Torr or in a 5 mTorr Ar atmosphere. Samples deposited in vacuum and temperatures above 823 K are magnetic at room temperature and show the austenitic $220% reflection in their x-ray diffraction patterns. The temperature dependences of both electrical resistance and magnetic susceptibility suggest that these samples exhibit a structural martensitic transition at around 260 K. The magnetoresistance ratio at low temperature can be as high as 1.3%, suggesting the existence of a granular structure in the films. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1452222#

The effect of post annealing on structure, microstructure and magnetic properties of thin Ni-Mn-Ga films

The magnetic shape memory (MSM) alloy Ni-Mn-Ga is an active material where large strains are obtained by magnetically induced reorientation (MIR) of martensitic variants. For the integration in microsystems, epitaxial thin films are in the centre of interest since the highest strains have only been obtained in single crystals. In order to minimize the technological effort, sputter deposition at...

Growth and characterization of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin films by nanosecond and femtosecond pulsed laser deposition

In this work, CuIn1 - x Ga x Se2 (CIGS) thin films were prepared by nanosecond (ns)- and femtosecond (fs)-pulsed laser deposition (PLD) processes. Different film growth mechanisms were discussed in perspective of the laser-produced plasmas and crystal structures. The fs-PLD has successfully improved the inherent flaws, Cu2 - x Se, and air voids ubiquitously observed in ns-PLD-derived CIGS thin ...

PULSED LASER DEPOSITION OF Ni-Zn FERRITE THIN FILMS

Thin Ni0.5 Zn0.5 Fe2 O4 ferrite films were grown on different condition on different substrates using pulsed laser deposition technique. Studying the influence of the energy of the laser beam, of the O2 pressure, of the substrate temperature, and of the distance between the target and the substrate on the microstructure and on the magnetic properties were established optimal conditions for PLD ...

Formation of Three Dimensional Ni Nanostructures for Large Area Catalysts

The formation of Ni nanostructures to act as catalysts in the growth of carbon nanotubes is reported. The changes in the surface morphology of Ni produced by three methods thermal evaporation and annealing of thin films, pulsed laser ablation and annealing of Ni, and the use of metal containing macromolecules have been investigated by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In...

Hall-petch Hardening in Pulsed Laser Deposited Nickel and Copper Thin Films

Very fine-grained Ni and Cu films were formed using pulsed laser deposition on fised silica substrates. The grain sizes in the films were characterized by electron microscopy, and the mechanical properties were determined by ultra-low load indentation, with iinite-element modeling used to separate the properties of the layers from those of the substrate. Some Ni films were also examined after a...
